Virtual therapy for adults, teens, and parents from a relational framework
Available for those living in TX, FL, & NJ
Welcome,
I’m Cathryn
I’m glad you’re here.
I have always been captivated by the richness of human stories. Whether conveyed through words, art, film, food, or music, stories are what weave the fabric of our lives and connect us across space and time. In this work, I’m reminded of how profoundly our narratives shape and connect us.
I believe that for therapy to be successful, who you are as a person comes first. We are not merely our symptoms, but the sum of all we have lived, loved, and endured. With compassionate curiosity, I am honored to sit with my clients to explore the stories of their lives and the complexities of self.
Our stories don’t just live in our minds. They are embodied. Think of the way your body responds to a tense scene in a movie or the way a poem can stir something within you. It’s a visceral experience. The same is true for the stories we tell ourselves. They imprint on our bodies. In therapy, I encourage clients to listen — not just to their thoughts, but to the wisdom their bodies hold. The body is never simply a passive vessel; it is a powerful messenger, a silent storyteller of its own.
In this work, we will create a safe place to explore the parts of you and your life that have left you feeling stuck. Together, we will amplify the quiet yet profound intuition that has always been there and begin to reshape the narratives that shape you.
Let's crank the volume on your intuition and build upon the internal strengths that already exist in you.
What is most personal is most universal.
- Carl Rogers
Individual Therapy
The clients I see in individual therapy are hardworking folks who find themselves feeling stuck in an area of their lives: whether that’s their emotions, relationships, identity, or school/work. Often, they are dealing with anxiety, depression, lack of purposefulness, self-doubt, feelings of shame, and may view themselves more critically than the rest of the world sees them. I care tremendously about the relationship we build. I strive for it to feel safe and welcoming for you to bring all parts of yourself. I’m motivated to support you working towards the specific changes or goals you would like to make happen in your life.
Grief Counseling
I consider myself a passionate grief advocate. American culture does a terrible job at validating and allowing space for the grieving and bereaved. Navigating life after loss can feel lonely, exhausting, daunting, even pointless. I am passionate about fostering a safe, welcoming environment for those who are grieving to sift through their feelings. I have extensive experience working with grieving children, adolescents, and adults.
Adolescent + Parent Support
Working with children and adolescents has been a steady theme of my career since 2012, primarily working in school-based settings.
Play Therapy and creative expression are pivotal tools woven into my work with this population because play is the language of childhood. It is always my goal to enrich your relationship with your child or teen, promote understanding, and work as a team with you to build on what you are already doing well.
In my work with adolescents, I approach our relationship with warmth, curiosity, and reverence for their complex emotional experiences. Oftentimes, they are sifting through and learning about pieces of their identity. I treat this process with deep respect and feel honored to support their growth along the way. My role is to be a steady anchor for them as they experience the waves of this pivotal time.
Psycho-education regarding the nervous system, emotional regulation, attachment, self-compassion and parent coaching play a significant role in my work with young people and their families.
College Students
Working with university students is some of my favorite work I get to do. I have deep compassion for the experiences and challenges college students face. The pressures of navigating life away from home, managing classes and professional internships, while still trying to balance friendships, dating, cooking, and your laundry – it can feel overwhelming. In grad school at UT, I found myself experiencing panic attacks and sleeplessness for the first time. I was grateful to find relief by tending to my mental health needs and I’d love to help you do the same. Whether you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, or difficulty keeping it all in balance, let’s work together on a plan to find relief. Please reach out to chat and see if we’re a good fit.
Healing, growth, exploration, & change all take place in a secure relationship – including ours. Beginning therapy is an act of hope & a bid for health.
About Me
I'm a clinical social worker and relational therapist. Paramount to all the fancy acronyms therapists may have, research informs us that the quality of our relationship is the greatest indicator of you feeling successful in this process.
I specialize in individual therapy for grief & loss, teens & college students, trauma, anxiety, depression, & parent support. I operate from a psychodynamic, justice-oriented, attachment informed, and culturally-humble framework.
Sometimes we find ourselves repeating old habits that no longer serve us but we’re unsure of what to do about it. I often work with individuals experiencing issues around shame and self-worth, who view themselves much harsher than the rest of the world. I offer room to explore these complex patterns with compassionate curiosity and supportive guidance for you to start trying something different – space for a new narrative.
My style is warm, engaged, and collaborative; I appreciate using humor and metaphor along the way. I’m a grief advocate and feel strongly about how we tend to our grief; rebelling against the typical American culture’s stance that grief is something people do in private. I’m here to create a non-judgmental, agenda-less space for us to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. If you’re interested in a free 15m consultation to see if we’re a good fit, let’s chat.
